The Honourable Justice Derek Michael Price AM has been appointed Chief Judge of the District Court of NSW commencing on and from 8 August 2014. He succeeds the Honourable Justice Reginald Oliver Blanch AM.
His Honour was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2010.
Previously, his Honour was a judge of the Supreme Court of NSW (2006-date), Chief Magistrate of NSW Local Court (2002-06), acting judge/judge of the District Court of NSW (1999-2002) and Magistrate of NSW Local Court (1988-99).
His Honour began his legal career in Sydney as a solicitor in 1972. In 1974 he became a partner in a firm at Dubbo until returning to Sydney in 1988 when he first became a judicial officer.
His Honour attended the University of Sydney where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (1972) and Master of Laws with Honours (1974).
